This is my personal opinion that I feel there is a need for a large scale MCI drill in our area. With the amounts of tour buses and trains coming through our area everyday we have been lucky to have not had an incident of this magnitude. Then there's always the thruway which has numerous vehicles traveling through the area with tons of passengers. I feel a drill would help the departments in the area see where their weaknesses are and the vast amount of resources that would be needed to handle a major situation. What do you think?

I would say that is a legit reason to drill for those scenarios. We don't have an area containing mass transit, however we do have a college campus which as we all know have been susceptible to MCIs but of a different nature. I think it would take a lot of planning to have multiple companies dedicate a rig and team to drill for a day. Some stations may not even be able to attend if they only have one rig. I don't know much about the planning that goes into these drills like active shooters etc. so I may come off as a layman; however, I would definitely go to an MCI drill if it were being offered.

Large scale MCI drill in this area should be very do-able. Homeland Security Training center and a wealth of resources in a very small area. Time and coordination of local resources is a great idea. I will look forward to the implementation of this great idea.

This are has not done a major MCI drill that integrated multiple agencies, Since New Hartford did one at the Old Hartford insurance in 2009 in which they did a large scale incident with about 100 patients. The need to do a multi agency drill is at a high demand seeing as how every day our major roads seem to grow increasingly busier with traffic with commercial, industrial, pedestrian, and personal vehicle traffic.

I haven't participated in one, but I do recall from a class two years ago hearing about one in Massachusetts that was a multi-agency drill. Several groups staged a multiple-vehicle crash (I think it was a train and a car) and had bystanders play victims. It was good PR for the departments, and it gave everyone more training. I'll always take an opportunity to work on something like that, both for the knowledge and for the community it fosters.

I think a large scale MCI drill would be incredibly valuable, ropetski makes an excellent point about the huge volume of tour buses that come through this area, I'd never considered that before! If nothing else, a large scale MCI drill could be helpful in the event of a mass shooter at one of the universities in the area. Hopefully something we'll never have to encounter, but a scary possibility.
