What are everyone's thoughts on the new Hospital being built in Downtown Utica? Do you feel it's a good idea to be downtown or would you rather see it at the St Luke's Campus?

The location of the hospital for me doesn't really matter much. What I am wondering is will services improve? Will they get their trauma certification back? Be able to handle the basic traumas without shipping it off to Syracuse or Albany. It is easily seen in Syracuse ER's especially Suny when we have a busy night in the city and amublance's from the greater Utica area are holding up the ER walls because just don't have the beds to take the basic things that should be able to be treated in Utica.

It would be closer for our agency as long as the turn around time is keep under control. This would help us in two ways; shorter call duration which would save us in overtime cost and get our ambulance back in service quicker.

I think it is a bad use of space. St Lukes campus is less congested more easily accessible, downtown may be more centrally located to some, however, think about the changing dynamics of the area once the hospital is constructed.

I worry about how difficult expansion will be in the future since hospitals seem to be constantly expanding if it is downtown. I also wonder if this will create more competition for the limited resources (ie. doctors, funding, staffing) in Utica. Alternatively, new competition could cause both hospitals to get better which we could argue is happening in Syracuse right now.
